Statement
In a world saturated with constant noise and visual overstimulation, my creative practice delves into the Japanese concept of "Ma," celebrating the beauty of negative space. This aesthetic, integral to Japanese culture, holds that the empty intervals between objects, sounds, or moments are just as vital as the active elements, bringing balance and deeper meaning to life.
The fragments I choose from a limited palette of hand-painted papers act as visual markers, while the true focus lies in the distance between them. By juxtaposing stark architectural lines with raw, torn edges and leaving areas untouched, I emphasize the gaps. These empty spaces, reminiscent of sunlight filtering through an open doorway, are significant pauses filled with possibility.
The canvas mimics the rhythm of daily life, where each piece manifests a thoughtful transition. This exploration highlights the dialogue between presence and absence, emphasizing the significance of what remains unspoken. Each composition reminds us that beauty often resides in the unseen, fostering a deeper awareness of our surroundings. Ultimately, my practice continues to investigate the role that space plays in my art while cultivating appreciation for the subtleties that shape our lives.
